Outlook: The Rams suffered a setback just before the Mountain West tournament as Dorian Green, their point guard and second-leading scorer, went down with a sprained ankle. Green should be available this week, and if so the Rams become even more of a threat to win multiple games. Larry Eustachy's team is one of the nation's best at hitting the offensive glass, and with Colton Iverson, Greg Smith and Pierce Hornung in the front court, CSU is tough to contain. Colorado State is experienced, as the majority of their rotation played in the NCAA tournament last season. If Green is fully recovered and Iverson avoids foul trouble, Colorado State can get to the Sweet 16.

The biggest knock is that the Cowboys are streaky shooters. An off night at the wrong time could result in an upset.

Outlook The Ducks controlled the Pac-12 until early February, when freshman point guard Dominic Artis injured his foot. Artis has returned, but the Ducks are still looking to regain the rhythm they enjoyed the first month of league play. Singler leads six players averaging at least nine points per game, and with Kazemi, Tony Woods and Waverly Austin, the Ducks don't lack for size in the paint. Oregon wasn't efficient offensively (the Artis injury had a lot to do with this), but they were among the best in the conference on defense.

He was WAC Freshman of the Year, and if the Aggies don't face a team looking to push tempo he could have an impact. NMS’ biggest concerns are turnovers, as the Aggies turn the ball over on nearly 22 percent of their possessions.

Outlook: St. Mary’s is one of the most efficient teams in the country on offense, and much of that credit falls on their point guard, senior Matthew Dellavedova. Delly might be the best point guard in the country at reading the pick and roll, both when he’s looking for scoring and trying to set up teammates. The key is secondary scoring options. When guys like Holt, Levesque and Brad Waldow are threats, St. Mary’s can be dangerous. They’ll struggle against teams with size or athleticism, especially if Jorden Page (who injured his knee in the WCC final) is out, but with the right matchup, they can reach the second weekend.

The Zags have arguably the best front line in the country, as Olynyk and Harris have the size, muscle and versatility to match up with anyone. Those two have been so good that everyone seems to have forgotten about just how talented the backcourt of Pangos and Gary Bell is. They have issues like every other contender -- they will struggle to defend elite point guards and big, athletic wing scorers -- but every contender does. The Zags are one of a handful of teams that can actually win the title.

Iona has won five straight since, and with guards Lamont Jones and Sean Armand they've got one of the nation's highest scoring tandems. Laury becoming eligible mid-year gave Iona the frontcourt scorer they lacked in non-conference play, and while this group isn't the greatest on defense they've got enough offense to give teams fits. If the Gaels draw a team that struggles on the perimeter they can win.

As long as he plays as he has the past month, Ohio State can return to the Final Four.

Then, Roy Williams switched to a smaller lineup, featuring Reggie Bullock or P.J. Hairston at the four. That, and the maturation of point guard Marcus Paige, has made UNC far more potent offensively and they've also improved defensively. If they land in a bracket devoid of teams with the frontcourt depth and skill needed to take advantage of this new rotation, North Carolina can get beyond the Sweet 16.

Outlook: Havoc! You should know what that means by now. Similar to the way that Arkansas defined themselves in the early-to-mid ‘90s under Nolan Richardson, Shaka Smart has turned VCU into a program built entirely around ‘Havoc’: its full-court, turnover-creating pressure defense. The Rams come at you in waves, with a seemingly endless supply of quick, physical guards that don’t let opposing backcourts catch a breath. VCU can make a Final Four, but it depends on matchups. Teams that have solid, veteran guards that won’t get flustered or turn the ball over can beat them. Teams that don’t will have nightmares.

Outlook: At one point this season, Minnesota was 15-1 and 3-0 in the Big Ten and ranked in the top 10. Since then, the Gophers have lost three in a row, five of their last seven and 11 of their last 16. If it wasn’t for a late-season win over Indiana, Minnesota may have flirted with missing the NCAA tournament altogether. Talent isn’t the issue. They have plenty. But execution, confidence and consistency are another story. It will be interesting to see how the Gophers fare, as Tubby Smith might need a trip to the Sweet 16 to save his job.

Outlook: The freshman class received a lot of preseason hype, and Muhammad, Anderson and Jordan Adams lived up to it. But just as important in the Bruins' Pac-12 regular-season title run were veterans Larry Drew II and Travis Wear. Drew led the conference in both assists per game and assist-to-turnover ratio, while Wear has been a reliable frontcourt presence, especially in pick and pop situations. UCLA doesn't have much depth and struggle on the glass, but the talent is there to to make a deep run.

Outlook: Jamaal Franklin is one of the most talented wings in the country, and after winning Mountain West Player of the Year last season, all he did for an encore was nearly average a double-double. In late-game situations either he or senior Chase Tapley will get the call, but how competitive the Aztecs are comes down to point guard Xavier Thames. Thames has been bothered by a back injury for much of the season, and when he struggles to be productive SDSU struggles as a whole. Given their athleticism, the Aztecs can win a game or two because of mismatches they produce. But with an iffy Thames, it's tough to see them doing much damage.

Throw in guys like Will Sheehey, Remy Abell and Victor Oladipo -- such an influential role player that he’s legitimately a first-team All-American -- and the Hoosiers have everything you look for in a title contender.

Reinhardt and Dejean-Jones both can go off, but their shot selection is questionable at times. UNLV’s most important player is senior point guard Anthony Marshall, who must consistently get quality looks for teammates. This team is loaded (don't forget Mike Moser) and they enter the NCAA tournament playing well. With a bracket that lacks deliberate opponents, UNLV can win multiple games.

Outlook: Illinois can't be trusted. They have impressive wins -- against Indiana, against Gonzaga at Gonzaga, against Butler in Maui -- but they are as inconsistent as anyone. They went just 8-10 in Big Ten play and lost eight of 11 at one point. The Illini rely heavily on the 3-point shot and don’t have interior scoring to balance it out. When their threes are going down, Illinois is dangerous, but those nights have been few and far between of late.

Outlook: Jim Larranaga's second season in Coral Gables resulted in the program's first ACC regular season title and a tournament title to boot. Miami's a senior-laden team whose average age rivals that of the NBA’s youngest teams, but NCAA tournament experience isn't there. Shane Larkin is arguably the ACC's best point guard, and his emergence allows Durand Scott to play off the ball where he's more dangerous. Kenny Kadji's a difficult matchup at power forward, while Julian Gamble and Reggie Johnson are the anchors in the paint. If Miami displays the commitment to defense that helped them start 13-0 in conference play, a trip to Atlanta is possible.
