SCORING
Each completed bracket is scored under our Scoring System, as shown below:
  • Round One Games: 1 point for each correctly identified game winner
  • Round Two Games: 2 points for each correctly identified game winner
  • Round Three Games: 4 points for each correctly identified game winner
  • Round Four Games: 8 points for each correctly identified game winner
  • Round Five Games: 12 points for each correctly identified tournament champion
  • Round Six Game: 16 points for correctly identifying the tournament champion

One (1) potential participant who receives the most points based on the “It's Madness! Pro Points Scoring System” will win the Grand Prize. In the event more than one participant earns the same number of points at the end of the Contest, the Tiebreaker, as set forth below, will be used to determine all potential winner(s). If after the Tiebreaker a tie still exists, employees or representatives of Sponsor, whose decisions are final and binding, will conduct a random drawing to select the potential one (1) Grand Prize Winner, and all ties for second through seventh place.

Official Prizes
PRIZES: On or about April 8th, 2008, employees or representatives of Sponsor, whose decision is final and binding, will determine the potential winners from all eligible Contest entries received during the Contest Period in accordance with the “It's Madness! Pro Points Scoring System” as described in the Overview above. Prizes will be awarded as follows:
  • One (1) potential Grand Prize Winner will receive the sum of five-thousand dollars ($5,000), payable by check;
  • One (1) potential Second Place Prize Winner will receive the sum of two-thousand dollars ($2,000), payable by check;
  • One (1) potential Third Place Prize Winner will receive the sum of one-thousand dollars ($1000), payable by check;
  • One (1) potential Fourth Place Prize Winner will receive the sum of five-hundred dollars ($500), payable by check.
  • One (1) potential Fifth Place Prize Winner will receive the sum of five-hundred dollars ($500), payable by check.
  • One (1) potential Sixth Place Prize Winner will receive the sum of five-hundred dollars ($500), payable by check.
  • One (1) potential Seventh Place Prize Winner will receive the sum of five-hundred dollars ($500), payable by check.

No transfer or substitution will be awarded in lieu of stated prizes except by Sponsor who reserves the right to substitute a prize (or portion thereof) of comparable or greater value, at it’s sole discretion. All prize details are at the sole discretion of the Sponsor. All federal, state and local taxes and all other costs associated with acceptance or use of prize(s), not specified herein, are the sole responsibility of the winner(s). Arrangements for delivery of prize(s) will be made after potential winner validation. Any depictions of the prize(s) are for illustrative purposes only. The decisions of the Sponsor are final and entrants agree to be bound by these decisions.

WINNER NOTIFICATION/RELEASES. Potential Prize Winner(s) will be notified by phone and or email. Sponsor will make two (2) attempts to contact the potential winner(s) at the phone number or email address provided online within 24 hours from the time of the winner(s) selection. If Sponsor is unable to reach a potential winner via phone or email within this time frame, he/she will be disqualified and an alternate will be selected as the individual with the next highest Total Score. The potential winner(s) will be required to execute and return a notarized affidavit of eligibility/release of liability and/or publicity release (unless prohibited by law) within five (5) days of attempted notification. If any potential winner cannot be contacted or fails to sign and return the affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release within the required time period (if required), potential winner forfeits prize even though his/her name may have been shown/announced on air. If prize is returned as undeliverable, potential winner forfeits prize. In the event that a potential winner is ineligible or disqualified for any reason, Sponsor will award the prize to an alternate winner. Odds of winning a prize depend on number of eligible entries received.

GENERAL. Acceptance of any prize constitutes permission to Sponsor to use any winner's name, city, state, likeness, voice, biographical information and statements for purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity in any and all media, now or hereafter known, throughout the world in perpetuity without additional compensation, notification or permission, unless prohibited by law. By participating, entrant (i) agrees to release and hold Sponsor, their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, and advertising and promotion agencies, any other entity involved in the development or administration of the Contest, and each of their respective directors, officers, employees and assigns (collectively, the “Released Parties”), harmless against any and all claims and liability of any kind (including, without limitation, personal injury, death, and/or property damage) arising in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, out of participation in the Contest or the acceptance, receipt, possession, misuse, nonuse or use of any prize (or portion thereof); (ii) waives all rights to claim direct, indirect, punitive, incidental and/or consequential damages, attorney's fees or any damages other than actual out-of-pocket costs incurred to enter; (iii) agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor and its representatives, which are final and binding on all matters relating to the Contest, and (iv) agrees to waive any right to claim any ambiguity or error in these Official Rules or the Contest itself.

Released Parties are not responsible for incomplete, lost, late, stolen, damaged, illegible, misdirected, garbled, inaccurate, delayed or undelivered entries; for any computer, network, technical, mechanical, printing, typographical, human or other errors or problems of any kind relating to or in connection with the Contest, including, without limitation, errors or problems of any kind that may occur in connection with the administration of the Contest, the processing of entries, the announcement, delivery or use of any prize or in any Contest-related materials; or for any liability for damage to any computer system resulting from participating in, or accessing or downloading information in connection with this Contest. CAUTION: Any attempt by an entrant to deliberately damage any web site or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserve the right to seek damages from any such entrant to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.

If this Contest is not capable of running as planned due to an infection by a computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Sponsor (including, without limitation, in the event of any unanticipated occurrence that is not fully addressed in these rules), Sponsor reserves the right to postpone, cancel, or modify the Contest (or any element thereof, including, without limitation, these rules) in any manner and for any reason without notice, in its sole discretion. Sponsor also reserves the right in its sole discretion, to cancel, suspend or modify the Contest, or to disqualify any implicated entrant(s), (and their entries) if any fraud, virus, actions by entrants, technical or other error or problem of any kind, or any other occurrence corrupts or affects the administration, integrity, security, or proper play of the Contest, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. In the event of cancellation, Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to pick winner(s) from among all eligible entries received by Sponsor up until the time of such cancellation, termination, modification or suspension, as applicable. Entries will be declared made by the authorized account subscriber of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry. Authorized account subscriber is the natural person who is assigned the email address by the Internet Service Provider (ISP), on-line service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning e-mail addresses. Sponsor reserve the right to terminate this Contest or permanently disqualify from any promotion any person it believes has violated these rules.

The failure of Sponsor to comply with any provision of these Official Rules due to an act of God, hurricane, war, fire, riot, earthquake, terrorism, labor dispute, act of public enemies, actions of governmental authorities outside of the control of Sponsor (excepting compliance with applicable codes and regulations) or other force majeure event will not be considered a breach of these Official Rules.


All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of any participant, Sponsor or the Released Parties in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of New York. If any controversy or claim arising out of or relating to the Contest, the Official Rules, or the breach of any term hereof, cannot be otherwise resolved, it shall be resolved by binding arbitration conducted in the County of New York, and administered by Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services (“JAMS”) in accordance with its Streamlined Arbitration Rules and Procedures or subsequent versions thereof (“the JAMS Rules”). The JAMS Rules for selection of an arbitrator shall be followed, except that the arbitrator shall be an experienced arbitrator licensed to practice law in New York. The decision of the arbitrator shall be binding, final and conclusive and shall not be appealable to any court.

THE NBCSPORTS.COM “IT’S MADNESS!” CONTEST OFFICIAL RULES

No purchase necessary to enter or win. The “It’s Madness” Contest begins at 12:00 PM ET on March 11, 2008 and ends at the completion of the 2008 NCAA Championship Game on April 7, 2008 (the “Contest Period”). All times in this Contest refer to Eastern Time.

INTRODUCTION

SPONSOR. NBCSports.com, 3 Landmark Sq., Suite 330, Stamford, CT 06901 (the “Sponsor”). NBCSports.com hosts, operates and maintains an interactive game on the Internet that captures the excitement of college basketball tournaments, called "It's Madness!" (the "Contest") located at http://madness.nbcsports.com/

OBJECTIVE
Participants get to choose an It's Madness! tournament bracket consisting of 63 games, and a total score for the championship game. You will receive points for each game in which you select the winning team, using a multiple based upon the team's tournament seed. Your final score for the tournament will be the total of all your points. Your goal is to earn as many points as you can over the course of the tournament, starting March 11, 2008 and ending on April 7, 2008. Participants cannot change any selections after the time one (1) hour before tip-off of the first college game basketball tournament game. For the purposes of the Contest, any play-in game is NOT considered an official game and is not factored into the scoring of the Contest in any way.

BRACKET CHANGES
You can make as many changes to your bracket as you like until the deadline. The deadline will be one (1) hour before tip-off of the first college basketball tournament game on March 20, 2008.

TIMING
The Contest runs from 12:00PM Eastern Time (“ET”) on March 11, 2008 and ends on April 7, 2008 at the completion of the 2008 NCAA Championship Game (“championship”). Participants can enter the “It's Madness!” Contest at any time between 12:00PM ET on March 11, 2008 through 12:00PM ET on March 20, 2008. Each participant may only enter the Contest once, but is entitled to change selections until one until 12:00PM ET on March 20, 2008. Contest selection changes will not be effective if made after 12:00PM ET on March 20, 2008.

POINTS SYSTEM
The Contest scores all picks exclusively on the basis of the “It's Madness! Pro Points Scoring System” (the "IMPPSS"), and there is no subjective evaluation regarding the worth or value of any game. The IMPPSS awards points for any game which is chosen correctly by the participant. The Points each participant earned through the end of the tournament are then totaled to generate a participant's Total Score ("TS"). A participant's TS is the basic number that NBCSports.com uses to rank all participants in the game.

SCORING
Each completed bracket is scored under our Scoring System, as shown below:
  • Round One Games: 1 point for each correctly identified game winner
  • Round Two Games: 2 points for each correctly identified game winner
  • Round Three Games: 4 points for each correctly identified game winner
  • Round Four Games: 8 points for each correctly identified game winner
  • Round Five Games: 12 points for each correctly identified tournament champion
  • Round Six Game: 16 points for correctly identifying the tournament champion

TIEBREAKERS

When participants select his or her brackets, a Final Score for the Championship Game must also be selected. At the end of the Contest, if there are participants tied for the highest Total Score, the participant with the Final Score for the Championship Game that is closest to the actual score of the championship game will be deemed the Grand Prize Winner. Participant’s Final Score will be used in the Contest solely in the event that a Tiebreaker is necessary and will not be used for any other purpose. If the participants with the highest Total Score are also tied for the Final Score for the Championship Game, the following structure will be used to break the tie to determine the Grand Prize Winner, and all ties for second through seventh places:

  • Participant who scored the most points in Round 6 (Championship Game). If tied, then:
  • Participant who scored the most points in Round 5 (Final Four). If tied, then:
  • Participant who scored the most points in Round 4 (Elite 8). If tied, then:
  • Participant who scored the most points in Round 3 (Sweet 16). If tied, then:
  • Participant who scored the most points in Round 2 (32 teams). If tied, then:
  • Participant who scored the most points in Round 1 (64 teams).

In the event participants still remain tied after applying the above tiebreaker, the participant who made his or her final selections earliest in time will be declared the potential winner(s).

ELIGIBILITY. The Contest is open only to legal permanent residents residing in one of the of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia (excluding Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, Virgin Islands and other United States territories) who are 18 years of age or older at time of entry. Employees of Sponsor and their parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies involved in the development or administration of this Contest, and any other entity involved in the development or administration of the Contest, and their immediate family members (parent, child, spouse, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and/or those living in the same household of each, whether or not related, are not eligible to participate or win the Contest. Entries must be received by the time stated below to be eligible. Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. Sponsor reserves the right to verify eligibility qualifications of any entrant or winner.

HOW TO ENTER. During the Contest Period, go to http://madness.nbcsports.com/ , 2) Contest participants may either (i) use their existing NBCSports.com username and password or (ii) complete the online registration at the http://madness.nbcsports.com/ website, which includes your full name, complete address, daytime telephone number, date of birth and valid email address, and 3) read the applicable Terms of Service http://www.nbc.com/terms and click the “I agree to NBC.com’s Terms of Service box. Normal Internet time, toll, connection and usage rate, if any, imposed by participant’s online carrier will apply. Only ONE (1) Entry is allowed per person throughout the entire Contest Period. Entries generated by a script, macro or other automated means will be disqualified. Entries that are incomplete, illegible or corrupted are void and will not be accepted. Sponsor ia not responsible for lost, late, stolen, incomplete, or otherwise misdirected entries or transactions that are processed late or incorrectly or are lost due to computer or electronic malfunction or other error. All entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned. By participating, entrants unconditionally accept and agree to comply with and abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of Sponsor. CONTEST SELECTION CHANGES MUST BE MADE NO LATER THAN 12:00PM ET ON MARCH 20, 2008. SELECTION CHANGES MADE AFTER THIS TIME WILL NOT BE EFFECTIVE.

USE OF DATA/ENTRANT’S PERSONAL INFORMATION. The Sponsor will be collecting personal data about participants when they enter the Contest. The Sponsor does not guarantee the safety of the transmission of information sent by the entrant’s and all information is sent at the entrant’s own risk. The Sponsor may disclose the entrant’s personal information only in any manner consistent with Sponsor's statement on privacy located at http://www.nbcsports.com/privacypolicy/.
